CHICOPEE - Leon O. Couture, 76, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Wednesday July 30, 2003. He was employed as a machinist at the former American Bosch Company in Springfield and retired in 1986. He previously worked for many years as a carpenter for the former KV Builders of East Longmeadow. He was born in Springfield on December 18, 1926 a son of the late Alfred J. and Malvina (Milsan) Couture. He moved to the Aldenville section of Chicopee in 1950. He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy aboard the USS San Clemente and attained the rank of Machinist Mate 3rd Class. He received the American Theatre Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a communicant of Saint Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville and a member of the Aldenville American Legion Post 337. His beloved son, Richard L. Couture was Called Home on December 17, 1989. He leaves his beloved wife of 56 years, Theresa M. (Godin) Couture. They were married at Saint Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville on June 30, 1947. He also leaves his loving daughters, Carol T. Remillard and her husband Joseph of Belchertown, JoAnne M. Souther and her husband Albert "Bill" of Merrimack, NH, Susan J. Boisseau and her husband Gerard of Chicopee, Deborah A. Couture Furr of Hampstead, NC and Sheila J. Rivard and her husband Steve of Aldenville. His cherished 15 grandchildren and his cherished three great-grandchildren. His dear brother, Wilfred Couture and his wife Muriel of Springfield. His dear sisters, Dina Gowash of East Longmeadow and Malvina Fitzgerald of Ludlow and his many dear nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his dear brother, Joseph Couture and his dear sisters, Cecile Joubert and Priscilla Breau. His funeral will be held Monday morning August 4, 2003 at 8 a.m. from the St. Pierre Aldenville Funeral Chapels, 13 Dale Street at the junction of Grattan Street in Chicopee followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in Saint Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street in Aldenville. His burial will follow the Mass at Saint Rose Cemetery on Olsen Street in Aldenville. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday August 3, 2003 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home off of Lafayette Street.
