Death
CONCORD- Thomas "Tom" Franklin Joyner, 77, passed away at Atrium Cabarrus on January 28, 2022. His funeral will be 2:30pm Tuesday at First Baptist Church Concord, 200 Branchview Dr SE, with Rev. Stanley Spence and Rev. Buster Pigg officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Military rites will also be rendered at the church. A private burial will be held at Oak Ridge Baptist Church cemetery. The family will be at the home of his daughter, Susan, 1035 Duchess Dr. Mt Pleasant, the remaining times. Tom was born April 27, 1944 in Cabarrus County. His parents, John Franklin and Martha Mae Green Joyner and sister, Carolyn Eury, preceded him in death. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in Operation Desert Storm. He also served in the Army Reserves for 30 years and was a member of the American Legion. For many years Tom drove a truck (Ryder, McClain, ABF, and Fredrickson) before working for the NC DMV weight division. Tom was active in our community. He was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church and Cabarrus Masonic Lodge #720 in Midland. He was a 1964 graduate of Harrisburg High School. He was a fireman for Allen VFD for 63 years. He was also on the Cabarrus rescue squad for over 50 years having served as Chief and on the board of directors. He was a NC certified fire instructor and taught the county fire school. He was a member of the Cabarrus County Law Enforcement Association. As a husband, father, great grandfather, and brother, Tom was most proud of his family. Mr. Joyner is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judy Gamble Joyner; son, Keith Thomas Joyner and wife Carolyn of Concord; daughter, Susan J. Furr and husband Bryant of Mt. Pleasant; brothers, Ted Joyner and wife Dollie, Darrell Joyner and wife Brenda, and Langley Joyner and wife Debbie; grandchildren, Michael Thomas Carter, Tyler Carter, Ivy Triantis, Brandon Joyner, Sam Helms, and William Smith; and great grandchildren, Kennedy, Kade, and Brayleigh Carter. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605 or to Oak Ridge Baptist Church, 5340 Flowes Store Road, Concord NC 28025.Endnotes
