Death

Donald Eugene Whitley, 63, of Norwood, passed away Monday, May 1, 2023 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel and burial will follow at Norwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Mr. Whitley was born on July 17, 1959 to the late Charlie Martin and Frances Richardson Whitley. He was a 1977 South Stanly High School graduate and a member at Norwood Church of God. He worked as a supervisor with Roman Knit in Norwood. He also worked with the NC Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer, as well as a security guard for Stanly Regional Medical Center. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Kendra Whitley; and grandchildren Ava and Wyatt Thompson. He is survived by his daughters Tabithia Thompson and husband Anthony, Carol Furr and husband EJ, all of Norwood, and Tiffany Blalock, of New London; seven grandchildren, Austin, Jessie, Payton, Braxton, Mason, Maddox and Baby Boy Furr; and brother and sister Lanny Whitley of Norwood and Becky Wallace of Troy.
