COLUMBIA – Ashley Nicole “Nikki” Hopkins, 75, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2020. Services to celebrate her life will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Nikki was born May 7, 1944 in Lancaster, South Carolina to the late Henry and Lillian Newsom Mathis. Most of her childhood was spent in Lancaster, Chester and Hartsville, South Carolina, but she lived her adult life in Columbia, South Carolina. She was a graduate of Hartsville High School and from Carolina College of Commerce in 1964 with a degree in Secretarial study. Nikki worked for over 20 years for the South Carolina Merchants Association. She also worked as personal secretary to Dr. Wendell Estep at First Baptist Church. Nikki loved animals, in particular, dogs. One of her hobbies was showing dogs in dog shows, and she never missed the Westminster Dog Show. Nikki loved the beach, spending many vacations there over her lifetime. Her infectious smile could light up a room and would leave anyone with a smile. She will always be remembered for her sunny disposition, joyful spirit, quick wit, and sense of humor. Nikki loved the Lord and was a devout Christian. While we will truly miss her, we rejoice knowing she left her earthly home peacefully to be with our Lord and reunited with loved ones. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by two husbands, Mr. Sammy Hopkins and Mr. Clint Mitchum. Survivors include her daughter, Ashley Hopkins Furr, son-in-law, John Carl Furr; granddaughters, Annabelle Hopkins Furr and Lillian McManus Furr of Summerville, South Carolina; brother, Henry Alvin Mathis; sister-in-law, Judy Mathis of Lexington, Kentucky; niece, Andrea Leigh Mudd , David Milton Mudd and their children, Aimee Lynne Mudd, Jonathan Taylor Mudd, Zachary David Mudd of Lexington, Kentucky; nephew, James Alvin Mathis and wife, Sara Anne Mathis, and their children, Oliver Henry Mathis and Avery Lee Mathis of Fort Collins, Colorado; daughter, Kimberley Finney Woods; son-in-law, C. Jennings Woods and their daughter, Harvie Gertrude Woods of Columbia, South Carolina, as well as her good friend, Martha M. Cooke of Taylors, South Carolina.
