Mrs. Sara Emily Dooly Gaston, age 89, of 306 Clark Dr. Rome, passed away Sunday August 12, 2012 at a local hospital. Mrs. Gaston was born in Cartersville, GA. May 2, 1923, daughter of the late Anderson Kay Dooly and Minnie Ella Watts Dooly. Her family moved to Rome in 1924 and Mrs. Gaston continued to live in old East Rome for all of her life. She attended East Rome Elementary school and graduated from Rome High in 1939. She later attended Shorter College. Mrs. Gaston was employed at Home Building Loan Association, Citizens Federal Savings and Loan and was a real estate broker with Toles, Temple and Wright for over 20 years. She was the longest attending member of Second Avenue United Methodist Church. She and Willard Maxwell Gaston were married on March 25, 1945 when Max was on survivor leave from Iwo Jima and she was preceded in death by him on August 11, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her sister Katherine Dooly. Survivors include two children, Gregory Maxwell Gaston of Rome, and Priscilla Kay Gaston Garrison and her husband Saxton of McRae, GA.; four grandchildren, Meredith Norris and her husband Charles of Rome, Emily Furr and her husband Brandon of Milledgeville, GA, Andy Gaston and his wife Lacy of Marietta, and Katie Pociask and her husband Matt of Atlanta. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren, Julianna, Lydia, and Jonah Norris, Bethany and Caleb Furr, Phillip and Cora Gaston and Frances Pociask. Funeral services will be held Wednesday August 15, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Second Avenue United Methodist Church with Rev. Beth Sanders officiating. Interment will follow at East View Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening August 14, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Daniel’s Funeral Home. Those serving as pallbearers are asked to be at Second Avenue United Methodist Church Wednesday morning by 10:30 a.m. and include: Ward Daugherty, Rex Hussmann, Byron Eberhart, Bill Carver, and Dan Emerick. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Second Avenue United Methodist Church, 801 East Second Avenue Rome, GA. 30161.
