Death
Bertha Mae "Bertha" Knaps Thompson passed away at her home in Zachary, LA, on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at the age of 93. Preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Sodona Knaps and former husband, Frank Morton Thompson and infant son Gordon. She is survived by her five (5) children and their spouses, Linda Mae Beasley, Gail Mary Furr, John Morton Thompson and Dawn, Elizabeth Ann and Frank Brian and James Scott Thompson and Lisa. Also survived by eight (8) grandchildren, Stacey Lynn Beasley, Wesley Ellis, Kelly Furr, John Morton Thompson, Jr., Amber Thompson, Kristin Thompson, James Scott (Man) Jr. and Joseph Thompson and one (1) great-grandchild, Rivers Thompson. Upon graduating from Istrouma High School in 1940, she went into nursing at the Our Lady of the Lake School of Nursing. She worked briefly as a RN at the Standard Oil Company (known now as ExxonMobil) before starting to raise her family. Afterwards, she was a full time devoted mother and homemaker until her death. Most of her life was spent cooking and caring for her family as well as for a number of field workers on the Thompson Home Place in the Upper Plains, Zachary, LA. She has donated her body to the Tulane Medical School in New Orleans. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 23, 2016 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at the Redwood Baptist Church, 5182 Highway 412 E., Slaughter, LA.
