Death

BLACKWELDER – Frank G. Blackwelder, age 80, of Lawrenceville, GA went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 12, 2008.  He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Alice Motley Blackwelder; son, Brett Blackwelder of Stone Mountain, GA; daughter, Ellen Blackwelder Powell and her husband Chip of Lawrenceville, GA; three grandchildren, Alison Powell, Sam Powell and Lara Powell all of Lawrenceville, GA; sister, Martha Mills of Centerville, GA; brother, W.D. Blackwelder of Mooresville, NC; several nieces, nephews, and many wonderful friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Frank and Amy Iola Fesperman Blackwelder, a brother, J.D. Blackwelder and two sisters, Ruby Martin and Regina Benfield all of the Moooresville, NC area. Mr. Blackwelder was born in Mooresville, NC on January 1, 1928.  He graduated from Catawba College in Salisbury, NC with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Chemistry and attended Florida State University.  He retired from the Coca-Cola Company after a career spanning 33 years serving as Principal Chemist in the Ingredients Control Laboratory.  During his career with Coca-Cola he worked with fellow chemist, Mr. Roberto C. Goizueta before Mr. Goizueta became CEO of the Coca-Cola Company.  Six months after Mr. Blackwelder started with Coca-Cola, he was offered a position with the U.S. Secret Service but decided to continue with Coca-Cola.  The decision to stay with Coca-Cola resulted in Frank meeting his future wife Alice.  Mrs. Blackwelder says “he was meant to be with me.”  He served during the Korean War in the United States Army and was assigned to Company A of the 175th Military Police Battalion in Germany.  He loved to play golf, operate an amateur radio, and listen to bluegrass, country and gospel music.  Frank was a kind and gentle person. The memorial service celebrating the life of Frank G. Blackwelder will be held on Monday, December 15, 2008, at 11:00 A.M. at the Ingleside Presbyterian Church with Pastor Bill Bratley officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  The family has requested that memorial gifts be made to Parkview Christian School, 4875 Lilburn-Stone Mountain Road, Lilburn, GA 30047 (770-279-8702) or Ingleside Presbyterian Church, 1001 Old Snellville Hwy., Lawrenceville, GA 30044 (770-978-3555) in memory of Mr. Frank G.
