Death

Robert Ray "Bob" Austin Sr., 67, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 30, 2015. Born in Albemarle, NC on April 16, 1947; he was the son of the late Raymond and Ramelle Furr Austin and husband of the late Joyce Austin. He served honorably in the US Army during Vietnam. Robert retired after 20+ years with the Wake County Sherriff's Department as an investigator. He owned and operated AM Investigations until retiring in 2008 to care for his wife. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and shooter, loved his family, the mountains and his dogs and was always up for a cup of coffee with friends and family. He is survived by his four children: Robert "Rob" Austin, Jr. (Chelsea), of Sierra Vista, AZ, Frank Austin (Jessica Gonzales), of El Paso, TX, Liz Austin Beddow (Mark), of Apex and Gina Austin (John Thibaut), of Cary; by his companion in life: Jeanne Hathaway, of Fuquay-Varina and her children and their families: David and Robbie Hathaway and Tiffany Swenson; and by his grandchildren: Jeselle Pena, Frank Austin, Jr. "Frankie J", Jayden Hathaway and Melanie, Rachel and Emily Swenson. Family will receive friends on Friday, April 3, 2015 from 2-3 pm at Apex Funeral Home, with a Memorial Service to be held at 3 PM. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Fuquay-Varina. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America at www.vva.org.
