Death

Gary "Sonny" B. Furr, 82, of Murrells Inlet, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. He was born September 14, 1934 in Rock Hill, SC, son of the late Melvin B. and Ethel W. Furr. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanette Jacobs and his in-laws Virgil and Blanch Reynolds. Gary was an avid golfer, winning numerous amateur golf tournaments in the Southeast including the North Carolina/South Carolina Senior Amateur in 1992, as well as the South Carolina Senior Amateur in 1994 and 1995. An was active member of Belin Memorial United Methodist Church, he loved NASCAR, traveling (especially to the mountains), and wood working. He leaves a loving family to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 65 years, Maxine Furr; children, Patti Furr-Weaver and her husband Dexter, Myrtle Beach; Judy Furr Servant and her husband Mil, Garden City; grandchildren, Tyler Servant and his wife Hanna, Surfside Beach and Miles Servant, Murrells Inlet. A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday May 23, 2017 at Belin Memorial United Methodist Church with interment following in the church cemetery. Rev. Dr. Mike Alexander officiating. Memorial donations may be made in Gary's name to the St. John's Outdoor Chapel at Belin United Methodist Church, 4182 US-17 Business, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576. Burroughs Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Murrells Inlet (843.651.1440) is assisting the family.
