Death

Vernia Mae Bailey, 86, of Albemarle passed away Tuesday January 28, 2014 in Trinity Place, Albemarle. Her funeral service will be 11 AM Thursday January 30, 2014 in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Burris and Rev. Eddie Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Stanly Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 until 9 PM at Stanly Funeral Home. Born March 14, 1927 in Stanly County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Shepard Irenus Burris and Nora Bell Morton Burris and was a retired employee of Albemarle Spinning Mill. She attended Dunn s Grove Baptist Church. She was married to the late Marshall Glenn Bailey who preceded her in death. Survivors include sons Steve Bailey and wife Susan of Albemarle, Michael Bailey and wife Carla of Albemarle, daughters Hilda Carpenter and husband Donald of Albemarle, Paulette Whitley and husband Roger of Norwood, Linda Harkey and husband Larry of Albemarle, Deborah Bailey of Albemarle, and Wanda Furr and husband David of Albemarle, sisters Cannie Hudson and Helen Hatley, 15 grandchildren, 32 great- grandchildren, and 10 great- great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother Robert Burris, four sisters Beatrice Pickler, Clara Webb, Mary Hudon and Ruby Scott and a great-great- grandchild.
