Death

CONCORD - Ernest Leonard McDonald Sr., 84, of 4251 Roberta Road, died Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at his home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Roberta Baptist Church, Concord, with the Rev. Steve Pennington officiating. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park. Mr. McDonald was born March 26, 1923 in Cabarrus County the son of the late William Archie McDonald and the late Carrie Jane (Parnell) McDonald. He retired from Cannon Mills as a supervisor. Mr. McDonald was a member of Roberta Baptist Church where he taught the Men's Bible School Class. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Marvin, Jack, Leroy, W.A. and Coy McDonald and sisters, Gertrude Garmon and Maude McDonald. Survivors include his wife Geraldine (Furr) McDonald of the home; sons, Ernest L. McDonald Jr. and wife, Jane, of Concord, Gary Wayne McDonald and wife, Sybil, of Kitty Hawk and Eddie Eugene McDonald of Concord; daughters, Shirley (McDonald) Hoggard and Ramonia (McDonald) Kellis and husband, Ray, all of Concord; brother, Archie McDonald of China Grove; sisters, Maggie Page of Concord, Sara Singleton of Morganton and Margaret Foutz of China Grove; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. The family meeting place will be the home at 4251 Roberta Road.
