Death

COLEMAN - Linda Juanelle Guthrie Hagler was born June 2, 1931, to Jim and Gladys (Gad) Guthrie of Voss, Texas. She was welcomed into Heaven on the morning of September 2, 2009, after having fought a very brave battle with cancer for the past 16 months. The family will receive friends at Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman, Texas on the evening of Thursday, September 3, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.. Friends and family are asked to attend a celebration of Juanelle's life at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2009 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. Immediately following the burial ritual, a luncheon will be served for the family members at First Baptist Church Family Life Center. Those who would like to visit further with the family are encouraged to come by the Family Life Center rather than the Hagler Home. Juanelle was the third of five siblings, and grew up in the Voss community, attending school at Mozelle and graduating in 1948, just one week before marrying Glenn L. Hagler, who also grew up in the local area and graduated from Coleman High School.. Glenn and Juanelle met on a blind date arranged by Juanelle's "big brother" Bill Guthrie. The remained in the Coleman area throughout their marriage, raising two daughters, Sandra and Deborah in the Coleman schools. Throughout her lifetime, Juanelle was always involved in taking care of others. Even as a child, she was a main caregiver to her maternal grandmother, who was blind and lived with the Guthrie family on their small farm in Voss. That care-giving gift continued into Juanelle's adult life, and she spent many years doing private sitting for hospital patients or homebound patients. Juanelle also worked at First National Bank in the bookkeeping department and later as a teller for many years. Even during those years when banking was her vocation, Juanelle always was involved with taking care of both of her own parents as they aged and dealt with illness, her mother-in-law, several aunts, many friends and neighbors. Juanelle was an excellent cook and was always taking someone a cake, a pie or a loaf of her famous zucchini brad. Her grandchildren were her joy, and she was a very devoted grandmother, always making sure that all of her grandchildren spent as much time as possible at "GaGa and Glenn's house" during their growing up years. They all have remarked that she had a profound impact on their lives, and on their core values and faith. First Baptist Church was very important to Juanelle, where she was a member throughout her life, having transferred her membership from Voss Baptist Church, where she was baptized into the Christian faith as a child. She had many dear friends in her Sunday school, the Lydia Class. Today we share the loss of a very dear and beautiful woman. Her heart was that of a servant, and all who met her were drawn to her by that giving nature. Her love for her Lord and her family was most important. Every family member will always remember her constant prayer that God would "guide, guard and direct us." Juanelle was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Gad Guthrie and parents-in-law, Fisher and Hattie Hagler, as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and friends. Survivors include her husband, Glenn, of their home at 500 East 7th Street, her daughters, Sandra Winetroub and husband, Jerry, of Austin, Texas and Deb Hardridge and husband, Joe T., of Ponca City, Oklahoma. Grandchildren include Stephanie Barr and husband, Jason, of Austin, Texas, Kelly Black and husband, Jason, of Austin, Texas, Rusty Wilson of Stillwater, Oklahoma. Brett Furr of San Marcos, Texas, Cliff Wilson and wife, Melissa, of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Stacy Gunkel and husband, Bart, of Austin, Texas, Jay Winetroub of Austin, Texas and Derrick Hardridge of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Great-grandchildren include Ally and Katie Black, Ava and Trent Wilson and Sami and Lizzie Gunkel. Juanelle is also survived by her siblings, June Jenkins and husband, Al, of Houston, Bill Guthrie and wife, Mary Sue, of Harlingen, Sallie Morris and husband, Tommy, of Houston and Larry Guthrie and wife, Jody, of Coleman. She also had many beloved nieces and nephews and many very close cousins and special friends and neighbors.
