Death

James E. Smitherman, age 76, of Jones died Thursday Jan. 5, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, C.T. and Minnie Lee Smitherman; wife, Mary R. Smitherman; brothers, J.L. Smitherman and William Smitherman. Survivors include his wife, Jerry Surles Smitherman, son, John D. (Kandy) Rasberry Jr.; daughters, Rosemarie Witherington, Patricia (Mike) Furr, Kaye (Joe) Smitherman and Faye (Donnie) Logan; brothers, Charles (Bobbie) Smitherman, David (Sarah) Smitherman and Allen (Barbara) Smitherman; sister, Doris (Al) Molina; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and special caregiver, Joyce Smith. A chapel service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday Jan. 7 at Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home with Dr. Jerry Light Sr. officiating and burial following in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Jones. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6 at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Justin Parker, Clint Witherington, Jared Witherington, Corey Furr, Derek Logan and Steven Bennett.
