Death
NEWPORT NEWS - Sarah Rowell Furr was called home on Sunday, Sept. 7, 1997, after an extended illness. Born in Statesville, N.C., she was a resident of Newport News for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Macon E. Furr.Sarah was a very active member of Second Presbyterian Church in Newport News, and over her lifetime she worked with both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts on the Peninsula. Left with her wonderful memory are her two children, Michael P. Furr, and his wife, Sharon A. Furr, of Plantation, Fla., and Lisa F. Wilkins, and her husband, Kevin B. Wilkins, of Newport News; her granddaughter, Michelle F. Johnson, and her husband, Martin Johnson, of Stafford; her grandsons, Ryan B. Wilkins and Robbin A. Wilkins of Newport News; her sisters, Roberta R. Rodgers of Newport News, Ruth R. Reid of Virginia Beach and Mary R. Wyatt of Wahiawa, Hawaii; and her sister-in-law, Thelma F. Godfrey of Concord, N.C. The family will receive friends at Peninsula Funeral Home on Monday, Sept. 8, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. A brief graveside service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 11 a.m. in Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the dear friends who had helped Sarah through the hardest times of her illness, especially Mr. and Mrs. Ray Shultz, Ms. Naomi Burkett and the wonderful staff of Riverside Regional Convalescent Center. The family requests expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to Second Presbyterian Preschool, Second Presbyterian Church, 201 Menchville Road, Newport News, Va. 23602.
