Death
Daniel Hugo Mejia-Lora passed away Oct. 25, 2013, surrounded by family. Dan loved and lived for the Lord. Daniel was born April 8, 1913, in Quito, Ecuador. Daniel was proud to become a U.S. citizen in 1948. He married Grace Furr in 1947. Grace passed away in 1991. They had four children, Cyrus, Joy, and twins, Carlos and Martha. He attended Tulane University completing a four-year engineering program. Daniel spent his career in mechanical engineering/tool design. The majority of his life was spent in Jackson, Miss. He was allowed to enjoy woodworking during 40 years of retirement. His woodwork is now treasured by family and friends. He moved to Portland in 2003. In 2005, he met Jeanette Parker taking tai chi at the Lake Oswego senior center and they married a year later. He was dedicated to his West Portland United Methodist family, many of whom celebrated with him at his 100th birthday party in April 2013. Daniel is survived by wife, Jeanette Parker- Mejia; children, Cyrus, Carlos and Martha; their spouses; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grand children. Daniel was preceded in death by Grace; and daughter, Joy. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Habitat for Humanity.Published in The Oregonian on Nov. 5, 2013
