Death

Sunday, March 20, 2011 — Donald Lee Herrin, age 82, of 18661 Newsome Road, Oakboro, passed  away on March 17, 2011 at Bethany Woods Nursing & Rehabilitation Center at 33426 Old Salisbury Road, Albemarle. The family will receive friends at Open Door Baptist Church, Monday, March 21, 2011 from 3-4 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday, March 21, 2011 at 4 p.m. at Open Door Baptist Church with Rev. Clinton Efird and Rev. Nathan Hammill officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military rites will be provided by Stanly County DAV. He was born in Cabarrus County on September 25, 1928 to the late Clifford Arthur Herrin and Elsie Minter Herrin and was raised by his grandparents, Paul and Minnie Smith. Mr. Herrin is survived by his wife of 60 years, Peggy Furr Herrin of the home; two sons, Dale Herrin and fiancée Kathy and Jody Herrin and wife Angela; two daughters, Tanya Barbee, and Ann Efird and husband Roger, all of Oakboro; five grandchildren, Tiffany Beatenbough, Travis Barbee, Jed Herrin, Jacob Herrin and Zachary Herrin; nine great- grandchildren, Baylee, Rob, Bo, Katie Beth, Caroline, Hadley, Taylen, Kaylee, and Anna Ruth; one brother, C.A. Herrin of Oakboro; and three sisters, Juanita Smith Tucker of Locust, Peggy Lidon of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Lucy Faile of Winston- Salem.
