Death
DECATUR — Raymond E. Pinkley, 85, of Decatur, died Sunday, October 30, 2005, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Thursday, November 3, 2005, at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, 2827 N. Oakland Avenue, Decatur, with visitation 5 to 8 P.M., Wednesday, November 2, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Riverside Baptist Church Mission Fund or Fair Havens Christian Home. Mr. Pinkley was born February 13, 1920 in Vernon, Illinois, the son of John Raymond and Margaret Agnes Pinkley. He married Florence Esther Metzger on July 6, 1940 in Boonville, Indiana. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, Decatur, where he served many years in various positions on the church board. He served his country during World War II in the US Navy Construction Battalion (Seabees) for 31 months seeing duty in the Pacific Theater on the islands of Tinian and Okinawa. After release from active duty in 1946, he joined the Naval Reserves and eventually was recalled to active duty at the start of the Korean War in 1950 where he saw duty on the repair ship, U.S.S. Delta for 21 months. At the time of his discharge he was a Chief Petty Officer in the supply section. After his second tour of duty, Mr. Pinkley enrolled in Millikin University and obtained his degree in accounting in 1955 graduating Cum Laude and as a member of the National Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi. He obtained his certificate of Certified Public Accountant and eventually became part owner of the firm of Richardson, Karloski & Pinkley CPA’s of Decatur. He was a member of the American Institute of CPA’s, Illinois Society of CPA’s, Institute of Management Accountants and the American Legion Post 105 of Decatur. Surviving are his wife, Florence Esther of Decatur; sons Wesley Raymond and wife Bonita of Daytona Beach, Florida and Dale Wayne and wife Carol of Gobles, Michigan; daughter Janice Marlene Furr and husband Garry Furr of Charlotte, North Carolina; sisters Wilma Irene Flynn of Greenfield, Indiana and Norma Clair Mileham of Decatur; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Ruth. Raymond Pinkley will be remembered as one who loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, his family and his country.Endnotes
