Notes
Death
Dorothy Furr McGraw Mrs. McGraw passed away November 2, 2007 in Roanoke, Virginia. A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, she had lived in Roanoke since 2003 and has battled the ravages of Alzheimer's for the last three years. Dot was a graduate of Unionville High School and a long time member of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church and her very special Fred Brown Sunday school class. She delighted others as 'Pearly Gates' with her Ding-a-Ling group at church. She had a special love for children and nurtured many of them at the child development center at PCA where she retired in 1982. She was preceded in death by her parents Lewis Whitson and Nena Holtzclaw Furr, sisters Ruth Joanna Furr and Gloria F. Cook, brother Ransom Furr and her husband and best friend of over 50 years, James Andrew McGraw. Her survivors include a very special sister Betty Williams, brother Jon Furr (Ann), 'sister' Dot Furr, her children David McGraw (Vickie) of Melissa, Texas and their children Jason McGraw (Crissie), Ashley Brunjes (Al), Neely McGraw, and Jonathan McGraw, her daughter Joanna Foster (Bill) of Roanoke, Virginia and their children Abby Poole (D), Blair Rhodes (Willard), Jenny Ludmer (Phil), and Jeb Foster (Monika). She is also survived by fifteen great grandchildren and many special sisters and brothers in-law and nieces and nephews. She will always be remembered for her wit, compassion, and wonderful sense of humor. We celebrate your freedom along with the many precious memories you left us. The family will greet friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at McEwen - Mint Hill Chapel. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday November 7, 2007 at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church with The Reverend Dr. Charles C. Williamson and The Reverend Lee A. Koontz officiating. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. For those who wish, memorials may be made to Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, 11501 Bain School Road, Charlotte, NC 28227.The Charlotte Observer, Charlotte, North Carolina, November 7, 2007
