Death
KANNAPOLIS - Orene Childers Jordan, 68, of 1808 Lane Street, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, at her residence. A funeral service is scheduled for 1p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Joe Harding will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. tonight at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at her residence. Orene was born July 1, 1939 in Kannapolis. She was a daughter of the late Homer Childers and Martha Barnette Childers. She retired from Pillowtex where she worked as a weaver. She was a member of Bethel Wesleyan Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Hooper, in 2006. Orene is survived by four daughters, Sherry Haynes of Kannapolis, Robin Furr of Mount Pleasant, Teresa Drake of Blufton, S.C., Tracy Duke of Monroe, Ga.; son, James Melton of Kannapolis; seven sisters, Martha Sloop, twin sister, Jearldine Privette, both of Kannapolis, Linda Yates of Monroe, Maxine Rushing, Joyce Storm and Sally Shaw, all of Kannapolis, and Debbie Lambert of China Grove; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Wesleyan Church, 4036 Old Salisbury-Concord Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083 or to the American Lung Association, 3801 Lake Boone Trail, Suite 190, Raleigh, NC 27607.
