Thomas Scott Strickland “Tommy” HARRISBURG — Mr. Strickland, 45, of 2550 Whispering, Oaks, died Saturday, November 27, 2004 after an 11 month battle with cancer, at NorthEast Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 1, at Highland Baptist Church, with Mr. Strickland lying in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Reverend Leonard Aycock, Reverend Collie Howard and Reverend Mike Hinson will officiate, Interment will be in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery, Harrisburg. The family will receive friends fom 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, November 30, at the home, 2550 Whispering Oaks, Harrisburg, NC. Mr. Strickland was born in Northridge, CA on March 6, 1959, a son of the late Gilbert Strickland and June Arden Parker. He attended Mt. Pleasant High School, and received his diploma while serving the US Army. Mr. Strickland was a truck driver for Bentley Transportation. Survivors include his wife, Annette Furr Strickland of the home; brothers, Gilbert Strickland and wife, Frankie, of Merritt Island, FL, Keven Strickland and wife, Linda, Pleasant, NC, and Richard Strickland of Concord, NC; sister, Connie S. Douglas and husband Ray, of Harrisburg, NC; mother-in-law, Brenda Furr; and sisters-in-law, Teresa Furr, Colleen Strickland and Regina Benfield and husband, Gene. The family meeting place will bethe home on Wispering Oaks. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6000 Fairview Road, Suite 200, Charlotte, NC 28210.
