Death

SAN ANTONIO — John M. Watson of San Antonio, Texas, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at the age of 77. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who raised four generations of family members. John loved life and always put others first, “he was a giver and not a taker.” Being funny and making people laugh brought joy to his heart. John was born in San Angelo, Texas, on Feb. 2, 1929, and moved to San Antonio when he was 16. He joined the U.S. Navy at 17 to take care of his mother and family, and was later stationed in Guam. After his discharge, he returned to San Antonio where he married the love of his life, Dorothy. They were married for over 50 years and raised five daughters and three grandchildren. The light of his life for the past eight years was his great-grandson, Clayton John or as he called him “John Clay.” His entire life revolved around him. John was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Pearl Watson of San Angelo, Texas; brother Jeff Watson; and sisters Ann Overstreet and Wanda Binyon. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Hurd Watson; daughters Patsy Pruiett and husband Jerry, Pamela Chapman and husband Greg, Judy Pruiett, Connie Batterton and Joann Batterton; grandchildren Tammy Pruiett, Johnny Pruiett, Tommie Morningstar, Stacy Biddle and husband Jeff, Terry Pruiett and wife Stef; great-grandchildren Clayton Pruiett, Vickie and Wyatt Morningstar, Zach Rieder, Will Appl, Madison Biddle and Ashley Pruiett; brothers, Doug Watson and wife Shirley; sister Faye Mitchell and husband Tinker; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas, with the Rev. Jerry Canupp officiating.
