Death
James Stephen Furr, 82, of Wilmington, NC, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Davis Health Care Center. He was born in Charlotte, NC, on November 10, 1940, to the late James Martin Furr and Miriam Coulter Furr. Jim married Barbara Watson on March 22, 1975, and they enjoyed 48 years of marriage together. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Bonnie Marie Furr. He is survived by his wife Barbara, his son James Stephen Furr, Jr. and wife Christy, his daughter Stephanie Leigh Furr, his granddaughter Amber and her son Carter, his sister Miriam Furr Lucas and husband Hollis, his brother Daniel Scott Furr and wife Jeaneen, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jim was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a Licensed N.C. General Contractor for over 50 years and was associated with the deep water dredging industry for much of his career. Many of the innovative systems he developed for the dredging industry are still in use today. Jim was an avid historian and a serious antique auto collector. The family would like to express their appreciation for the many acts of kindness that have been shown to them during Jim’s illness. We are thankful for the excellent care he received from the staff at Davis Health Care Center and Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center. A special thanks goes to Josh Fairchild, who was his compassionate, creative, and knowledgeable patient advocate for almost two years. A Celebration of Life is planned for 11:30 am on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Covenant Church, 210 Station Road in Wilmington. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Davis Health Care Center, Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center, or Feline Urgent Rescue and Rehabilitation (F.U.R.R.), P.O. Box 1430, Hampstead, NC 28443Endnotes
