GASTONIA - Mr. Michael Anthony Armstrong, 33, of Gastonia, died Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. He was born Jan. 26, 1976 in Charlotte to David Larry and Meta Furr Armstrong. Michael was a Fire Inspector with the Charlotte Fire Department, a Volunteer Fireman with New Hope Fire Department, and instructor of fire courses for Gaston College and other institutions. Michael's passion was teaching others about fire service and he was very well respected in his career. Michael loved the Lord and his family and everyone who met him fell in love with him too. In addition to his parents of Belmont, Michael is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Aaron Neil and Kym Armstong; nieces, Lainie and Kayley Armstrong, all of Belmont; paternal grandmother, Virginia Armstrong of Lowell; numerous uncles, aunts and cousins; and wife of 5 years, Tina Robbins Armstrong of Gastonia, and her family. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:45 p.m., Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Bethlehem Baptist Church. A service to celebrate his life will be held 3 p.m., Thursday at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Reverends Dickie Spargo, Dale Lawing, and David Armstrong officiating. Interment will follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery, Belmont. Jack Frye, Jason Warren, David Brumbaugh, Jim Brumbaugh, Jimmy Brown, Mike McKay, Kenneth Worley, and Lane Odom will be serving as pallbearers from New Hope Volunteer Fire Department, and Honorary Pallbearers will be members of Charlotte Fire Inspectors.
