TWO GIRLS INSTANTLY KILLED AND A THIRD IS MORTALLY INJURED.
ACCIDENT NEAR HAZELHURST
Children Ware Riding on Log Wagon When Chain Broke, Throwing Them to Ground and Crushing Them to Death.
Hazlehurst. The 9-year-old daughter of Lon Furr and the 12-year-old daughter of Walter Glenn were instantly killed near the Furr residence, 24 miles west of this place, near the line of Jefferson and Copiah counties, by being crushed by some logs which became detached from a wagon. A third child, also a daughter of Furr's, was seriously injured and may yet die from the effects. A fourth child escaped injury. It is reported that the children had been placed on a log wagon loaded heavily with logs as it was passing near Furr's gate en route to the mill, when the chain holding the logs broke, causing the logs to roll off the wagon, throwing the children violently to the ground, crushing two of them to death. Mr. Furr, father of one of the the victims, was absent from home when the accident occurred and was wired for, while the Glenn child which was killed was on a visit to the Furr home and was a relative of the Furrs. Mrs. Glenn, mother of the girl, arrived only a few hours after her daughter was killed and was not aware of it until her arrival there. Mr. Furr Is a former member of the board of supervisors of this county and a prominent farmer, and is well known over the county.
