Death

HARRISBURG - Mrs. Broadway, 102, of Harrisburg, died Sept. 20, 2010, at St. Andrew's Living Center in Concord. She was born Jan. 12, 1908, in Stanly County, North Carolina, one of five children, to the late William Franklin Furr and Nezzie Florence Burleson Furr. A graduate of Albemarle High School, Mrs. Broadway owned and operated Broadway Beauty Shop in Albemarle for forty years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Albemarle. The family will greet friends Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, from 1 until 2 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 p.m. in the Chapel. Burial will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. Mrs. Broadway is survived by her son, Alton Broadway and his wife, Peggy, of Harrisburg; sister, Mildred Furr Carmichael and husband, Edward, of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Donna Blackwelder and husband, Kenny; Dale Broadway and Scott Broadway and wife, Dana; three great-grandchildren, Olivia Broadway, Alex Broadway and Summer Blackwelder; one nephew, Melvin Carpenter and wife, Etta of Ocala, Fla. The family would like to send heartfelt thanks to the staff of St. Andrew's Living Center and Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County and a very special thank you to Shirley Garmon for her companionship, love and care given to Mrs. Broadway.
