Death

Betty Humphries, 80, of Charlotte, North Carolina, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 11, 2021, due to complications as a result of her battle with Dementia. Betty retired from the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System after 30 years of service to care for her husband. Being a "caregiver" to many was one of her greatest gifts. Her family was the focus of her life. She also enjoyed Southern cooking, gardening, and spending Sunday dinners with the family after church. Hosting holidays at her house held some of the greatest memories for her. She was a faithful member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church for 35 years and a former member of Grace Baptist Church. "Grammy", as she was known to family and friends, had an unwavering faith that was a testimony to the selfless acts of kindness that she shared throughout her life. Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Bobby Humphries; her parents, John and Mable Furr; and her brothers, Wayne Furr and Ronald Furr. She is survived by her son, Ted Humphries of Charlotte; daughter, Melanie (Tom) Cusano of Charlotte; grandchildren, Heather (Pete) Mermell of Indian Land, SC, Kelly Cusano of Charlotte, and Haley (Josh) Courtright of Indian Land, SC; and great-grandchildren, Liam, Zoey, and Noah Mermell, and Ava and Everly Courtright. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church - Harris Campus in the Chapel at 7200 E. W. T. Harris Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28215. A celebration of life will follow at 11 a.m. Interment following at Charlotte Memorial Gardens, 7632 Hood Road, Charlotte, NC 28215. Memorials may be made to Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminster, 8919 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210.
