Death

STANLEY - Ronald Van Furr, 74, died Dec. 16, 2014. He was born in Stanly County, NC; son of the late Pratt and Mary Harley Furr, and was preceded in death by a son Kenneth Furr and a brother Bruce Furr. He served in the U.S. Army, was a Jan. 1962 graduate of NC State University, was employed with J.P. Stevens in Stanley for 39 years, serving as Quality Control Inspector and Plant Superintendent, and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Stanley where he had been active with the scouting pro-gram. Survivors include his high school sweetheart and wife of 52 years Jeanette Wagoner Furr, two sons Mark Furr and wife Alice of Matthews, NC, Brian Furr and wife Jocelyn of Charlotte, a daughter Ronda Furr of Stanley, a brother Benny Furr and wife Tempie of Cary, NC, and four grandchildren Mary Reeves Furr, Virginia Furr, Davis Furr and Joshua Furr. The funeral service conducted by Pastor Noel Sweezy will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Gardens. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund or Food Pantry, 217 North Main St, Stanley NC 28164. Woodlawn Funeral Home of Mount Holly is serving the family.
