Death

OTWAY – Georgia M. Furr, 84, of Otway, Ohio, died Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio, following a brief illness. She was born September 27, 1929, in the Duck Run Community near McDermott, Ohio, to the late Lloyd Herman and Dorothy Jordan Crabtree. Surviving are a son, Durward Trent Chandler and wife Mollie of Otway; two daughters, Cheryl Pierce and husband Ernie of Otway, and Karla McClary and husband Allen of Lucasville; one brother, Quinn Crabtree and wife Kay of McDermott; a special cousin, Jim Meadows of McDermott; nine grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Richard C. Furr and Durward Chandler; a son, Dennis Chandler; a brother, Ernie Crabtree; and a sister, Gloria Crabtree. Mrs. Furr was a retired beautician, a former Otway Village Council member for 12 years, and served as Mayor with 10 years of service. She was very active with all community activities including the restoration and preservation of the Otway Covered Bridge, the Heritage Trails Assoc., the Otway Historical Society, and the annual Roy Rogers Festival in Portsmouth. She was a dedicated worker at the Born Again Clothing in Otway, and a member of the Otway Community Church. She was also a former employee of the AAA in Portsmouth and later organized many tours throughout many parts of the country. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Otway Community Church with William Logan and Anthony Hoffer officiating. Burial will be in the Young's Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Friends may call on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Botkin Funeral Home in Otway, and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Otway Historical Society, P.O.
