Mrs. Nellie McCracken Orrell, 100, went to be with the Lord in her heavenly home, Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in Guilford Memorial Park. One of 12 children born to Ector B. and Minnie Furr McCracken in Haywood County, Mrs. Orrell graduated from the School for the Blind, Raleigh in 1920. She then taught in a one-room school in Upper Crabtree, Clyde, N.C. In 1923, she married DeRoy B. Orell, who was a blind piano tuner....

Death
CANTON — Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Furr McCracken, 74, widow of E. B. McCracken, who died Thursday afternoon in a Waynesville hospital after a brief illness, will be held Saturday at 2:30 p. m. in Rock Springs Baptist Church. The Rev. R. P. McCracken and the Rev. Doyle Miller will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Grandsons will be pallbearers and granddaughters will be flower bearers. Surviving are five sons, Claude and Gaines of Crabtree, Linton of Atlanta, Ga., Tom of Canton and Robert of Oak City, Tenn.; five daughters, Mrs. Hardy Liner of Waynesville, Mrs. C. B. Allen of Brooklyn, N. Y., Mrs. D. B. Orrell of Greensboro, Mrs. Wayne McElroy of Crabtree and Mrs. William Green of Canton. Also one sister, Mrs. Forest Messer of Waynesville; one brother, Dock Furr of Thomasville: 33 grandchildren and 13 great-grand- children. The body will be taken Friday afternoon to the home of a son, Claude McCracken, and remain there until the funeral hour.
