John Hainkel, longtime Louisiana lawmaker, dead at 67 -- The New Orleans native, a Republican attorney, died in his sleep while staying at fellow Sen. Walter Boasso's camp in Poplarville, Miss., where he had gone to relax before the legislative session that begins April 25, according to Senate spokeswoman Brenda Hodge. In addition to his son, Hainkel is survived by two daughters, Juliette Hainkel Holton and Alida Hainkel Furr. The family said arrangements had been made for Hainkel to lie in state in the state Capitol on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tentative funeral plans call for visitation from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday followed by services at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Burial will take place at Metairie Cemetery, according to a Senate news release.
