Death

Hoyle Thomas Drake, 81, of 18842 Woodfield Road, Oakboro, died Feb. 1, 2009, at his home.His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Red Cross Baptist Church, with The Rev. Garry Baker officiating. Interment will be at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Oakboro.The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at Red Cross Baptist Church. At other times the family will be at the home. Born June 17,1927, in Union County, he was the son of the late Harvey Ellis Drake and the late Mattie Ann Furr Drake Ingold. Mr. Drake was owner/operator of Phillips 66 Service in Frog Pond and served in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his wife, Doris Florene (Hinson) Drake of Oakboro; four daughters, Teresa Almond and husband Butch of Albemarle, Dale Smith and husband Dwight of Oakboro, Tami Burleson and friend Dennis Beaver of Salisbury, Becky Reed and husband Scott of Mt. Pleasant; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to: Red Cross Baptist Church, 18040 Ridgecrest Road, Oakboro, NC 28129; Shriners Children’s Hospital in honor of Hunter Johnson, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC, 29605; or Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N. First St., Albemarle, NC 28001. Arrangements are being handled by Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle.
