Death
MANNING -- William Lathan Stogner, 76, husband of Ingrid Clay Wells Stogner, died Monday, March 21, 2005, at his home in Manning. Born Aug. 6, 1928, in Lancaster, he was a son of the late Ira C. and Daisy Furr Stogner. He was a 1950 graduate of Erskine College with a bachelor's degree in math and business. He worked for what was originally Raybestos-Manhattan for 42 years in North Charleston, Marshville, N.C., and Manheim, Pa., and Universal Friction Composites in Manning. He was both manager and troubleshooter for the company. He was a member of St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Summerton, where he served as a member of the vestry. He was an AKC licensed all-breed (show dog) handler for many years as well as an avid fisherman. He was an active member of Rotary and the chambers of commerce at all locations after leaving North Charleston. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. Surviving besides his wife of Manning are four sons, W. Tracy Stogner and his wife, Alana, of Summerville, USCG Iain M. Wells and wife, Diana, of Wilmington, N.C., USAF Maj. Clay E. Wells and wife, Jeffersina, of Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, and Adam C. Stogner of Sumter; two daughters, Amy Wells Roseman and husband, Todd, of Rockwell, N.C., and Wren Stogner Bunch and husband, Braden, of Sumter; nine grandchildren, Rachel, Morgan and Shannon Wells, Clay Jr., William and Alaina Wells, Tyler and Callie Roseman and Kay Suzanne Bunch. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Summerton with Father David Thurlow and Father Henry Presslar officiating. Memorials may be made to St. Matthias Episcopal Church or to Montessori School at St. Matthias, P.O. Box 336, Summerton, SC 29148 or Hospice Care of Tri-County.
