Notes
Death
On January 2, 2026, Vena Mae Furr Thomas, of Little Rock, Ark., passed away at the age of 93. She was born December 12, 1932, to the late Gibson Furr and Verlie Cartwright Furr in Mayflower, Ark. Vedna was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Durwood Thomas; and her sister, Betty Sue Spakes. Vedna had a love for children. You would always find her talking to all the children sitting in a grocery cart. She loved gardening, sewing, and baking. She made all her desserts from scratch. You would never find a cake mix at her house. She also loved music, especially gospel and quartet singing. When we were little, she would always drag us down to those dinner on the ground and all day singing at the little country churches. Vedna always had lots of energy, and you would never find her lying down in the middle of the day taking a rest. She is survived by her four children: son, Steven Ray Thomas (Cindy), of Maumelle, Ark., daughters, Carla Bryant, (Terry), of Little Rock, Ark., Glenda Klappenbach (Mark), of Fordyce, Ark., and Donna Strickland, of Bixby, Okla. She is also survived by a sister, Norma Jean Cagle (Johnny), of Bradford, Ark., and eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday, January 9, 2026, 11 a.m., at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth Funeral Home, with visitation beginning 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Vedna will be laid to rest at Pinecrest Memorial Park following the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to be made to the International Essential Tremor Foundation.Endnotes
