Death
Julia Ada Ann Furr Freeman, born in a log cabin on the outskirts of Clinton, South Carolina, on July 24, 1936, passed away peacefully in her home on June 26, 2024. She was 87 years old. The widow of LTC (Ret.) William Curtis Freeman; she was the daughter of the late Olin F. Furr, Sr. and his wife, Helen Ella Osborne Furr. A 1954 graduate of Clinton High School - she played on the women's basketball team and was a member of the cheerleading squad. She attended Furman University briefly before marrying in 1955. Ada shared a military life with husband Curt, and they traveled the world living in Virginia, Georgia, Ethiopia, New York City, Kansas, and Germany. She was blessed with three children – Karolyn, Michael, and Lance. Ada Ann was proud of her role as "Mah-Ma-Ma" to four grandkids: Chris, Matt, Regan, and Riley and four great-grandchildren: Raelynn, Mia, Abigail, and Brooks. Ada is also survived by her brothers, O. Fayrell Furr, Jr. of Conway, South Carolina, and Robert C. Furr of Boca Raton, Florida. Ada loved to cook and sew and was an exceptional housekeeper. She also loved children and books and was the best storybook reader by far. She loved flowers and gardening and served as President of the Ft. Eustis Garden Club in the early 1970s helping to beautify the post. Ada was a member of First Baptist Church of Clinton and sang in the church choir in her youth. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Clinton with Rev. Dr. Blake Harwell officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at the funeral home prior to the service. The family requests memorials be made to the ETV Endowment of SC, 401 E Kennedy St # B1, Spartanburg, SC 29302 in support of programming for PBS Kids and "Making It Grow".Endnotes
