Shown in the 1900 census as granddaughter in the household of Benjamin Carter (March 1848, Indiana); father born Tennessee, mother Kansas.
1910 census shows her a niece-in-law in the household of Minor and Edna Denson; father born Mississippi , mother California.
Eliza (Dollie) and her husband Alba C. Furr died around 1896 and Lura, Mossie and Nina lived with Frank Carter for a period. They were then put up for adoption. The adoption was probably precipitated when Orpha became ill in 1905. Lura Mai lived for a time in the Kansas Children's Home in Topeka. She was adopted June 14, 1901 by Reverend Andrew B. McCarroll and his wife, Ella Jane (Hunter) McCarroll. (Rice County Probate Court, Lyons, Kansas. R.N. McElwain, Probate Judge). The Andrews lived in Sterling, Kansas. Nina was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Ward of Lane, Kansas. No information is available on the status of Mossie.

HUTCHINSON — Lura M. Rabun, 90, died Saturday. Service 11 a.m. Tuesday, Johnson & Sons Funeral Home. Survivor: daughter, Dorothy Rayl of Hutchinson. Memorial has been established with Oakwood Villa.The Wichita Eagle, Wichita, Kansas, January 19, 1981
