Ruby May (Spickler) Furr, age 76, of McAlester, Oklahoma, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025, in McAlester, Oklahoma. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home. A family-directed memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Dream City Church in McAlester, Oklahoma. Ruby was born on October 29, 1949, in Omaha, Nebraska, to George Nile Spickler and Vernice (Jameson) Brunson. She graduated from high school in Hemet, California, where she spent much of her life. Ruby later lived in New Mexico for a time before moving to McAlester, Oklahoma, in 2005, where she made her home. On November 7, 1967, Ruby married the love of her life, Smith Furr, in Valle Vista, California. Together they shared many years of marriage and raised three children: Tammy, Theresa, and Travis. Ruby worked as a seamstress at Lucy Ann's in Santa Paula, California, for about eight years, where she was known for her skill, dedication, and strong work ethic. She took pride in her work and valued the friendships she made there. Ruby enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She loved cooking, playing bingo, visiting the casino, watching game shows on television, and most of all, spending time with her family. Family gatherings brought her great joy, and she will be remembered for the warmth and love she shared with those around her. Ruby's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Ruby is survived by her children, Tamra Winkler of Kiowa, Theresa Ortiz of McAlester, and Travis Furr of McAlester; grandchildren, Anthony Furr and his partner, Samantha Mirick of McAlester, Amanda Jaramillo and husband, Joey of New Mexico, Joshua Furr and wife, Sherri of Kiowa, Jeremy Furr and wife, Kylie of Oklahoma City, Corey Furr and wife, Elizabeth of Santa Paula, California, and Courtney Serrano and husband Johnny of Santa Paula, California; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, John Brunson and James "Jimmy" Brunson both of Omaha, Nebraska; sister, Virginia Howe of McAlester; along with numerous nieces, nephews other family members and friends. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Smith Furr; her parents, George Nile Spickler and Vernice (Jameson) Brunson.Endnotes
