Death
Locust, Feb. 24. — Funeral services for Mrs. Rettie Hatley Furr were held Sunday morning at 11 o’clock at the Locust Baptist church conducted by Rev. C. C. Honeycutt and the pastor, Rev. W. L. Pitts, with a very large attendance. The choir sang two numbers, “Asleep in Jesus” and “Rock of Ages”. The magnificent floral offering was carried by twenty-seven, directed by Miss Genie Hinson and Mrs. Everette Honyecutt. The beautiful family blanket was of white lilies, white gladiolias and carnations. The nephews acted as pallbearers. Interment was in Meadow Creek church cemetery. Mrs. Furr was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hatley and had reached the age of 54 years, 8 months, and 8 days. She is survived by her husband, Richard E. Furr, one daughter, Miss Evelyn, of the home, two sisters, Mrs. Fanny Burris and Mrs. Sally Hasty of Concord, one brother, J. M. Hatley of Locust. Four children died in infancy. Mrs. Furr succumbed to a heart attack on Friday night in the Yadkin hospital following two weeks treatment for paratyphoid fever, but was improving and was to have returned to her home here this week. Mrs. Furr was a fine neighborly person and will be greatly missed. Her husband and daughter have the heart-felt sympathy of their many friends.Stanly News and Press, Albemarle, North Carolina, February 25, 1949
