Our County Home Doing a Good Work — What it Costs Per Capita — Our Jail in Good Condition — The County Helps Indigent in Their Homes.
In glancing over the report of the board of charities of the county which board is composed of Mr. W M Weddington, Dr. WH Lily and Capt. J M Alexander we note that there are in the county home 24 white and 12 colored inmates. Of this number eight are able to do some work. Two are bed-ridden. Five are involuntarily confined on account of dementia, viz: Eliza Furr; Sallie Maxwell; Ann Miller, col; Etta Corriher, col; and Emma Spears. It costs about $5.25 per month to support inmate, but they are largely fed from the garden and farm.
