He was from Moore County, North Carolina. Although I cannot prove it, old family letters state that Isam married Susanna Furr. Have found no documentation to verify this. Isam's will is dated 2 July 1841/probated 21 Feb 1842, Wilcox Co. AL.

Sworn to & subscribed in Open Court 21 February 1842

In the name of God Amen. I - Isam Sheffield of the county of Wilcox & State of Alabama being low in body but of sound memory of mind & understanding do make this to be my last will & testament in manner and as follows--hereby revoking all other wills by me made- First my will & desire is that all of my just debts & funeral expenses be paid- Second I give and bequeath to my son EVERETTE SHEFFIELD my daughter MILLEY MORGAN wife of Joseph Morgan my daughter SUSANNAH wife of James Mcgee- my son WILLIAM SHEFFIELD my daughter SALLY KELLY wife of Albert B. Kelly my daughter ROXALINA WRIGHT wife of Mathew Wright--all of my property of any description, both real & personal money accounts goods & chattels--Negroes crops & stock of every description to my said six children to share & share alike to them & their heirs forever-- third I give & bequeath to my son in law Bailey Manas who intermarried with my deceased daughter HANNAH SHEFFIELD and his children that he had by said daughter the sum of five dollars to them & their heirs forever--Fourthly--I cancel my loan of James Giden [prob.Green] who intermarried with my deceased daughter ELIZA MORGAN widow of the late James Morgan & formerly ELIZA SHEFFIELD fifty dollars--I now give him said fiftly dollars and give him and the childen that my said daughter Eliza has living the sum of five dollars to them & their heirs forever- I do herby nominate & appoint my two sons--EVERETT SHEFFIELD & WILLIAM SHEFFIELD executors to this my last will & testament-- In testamony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal to this my last will & testament. This the second day of July in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred & forty

Personally appeared before the Orphans Court of Wilcox County Abram Hillyer who being duly sworn [ ?] &[ ?] that he saw Isam Sheffield sign seal and publish the above instrument of writing as his last will and that he with the other subscribing witnesses Wm A Hicks & John Ratcliff signed the same as witnesses in presence of each other and of the testator and that the testator was of sound mind & memory when he published the same as his last will & testament subscribed & sworn to in open court. John Sheffield’s Will (dated 6 Dec 1794/proven February 1796)

In the name of God Amen. The sixth day of December one thousand seven hundred and ninety four I John Sheffield of Moore County & State of North Carolina being by decay of nature unwell but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be to God, for the same therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men to die and after death to judgement, I do hereby leave bequeath and dispose of my Goods and chattels in manner and form following that is to say I commit my body to the earth to be buried in a decent Christian manner at the discretion of my executors and likewise my soul into the hand of God, that gave it, knowing that after death I shall come to judgement and as to my worldly affairs I leave bequeath and give in manner and form following that is to say principally and first of all, I leave and bequeath to my well beloved wife HANNAH
SHEFFIELD, the plantation whereon I now do live with the buildings, orchards and improvements thereon with one hundred acres of Land, during her widowhood with all my stock & cattle (mpremise?).

I leave and bequeath to my son MARK SHEFFIELD one shilling sterling.

Item I leave and bequeath to my son AVERIT SHEFFIELD the land and plantation whereon I do now live to enjoy after his mothers deceased containing one hundred acres.
Item I leave to my daughter SARAH DENNIS one shilling sterling.
Item I leave and bequeath to my daughter MARY DUNN one shilling sterling.
Item I leave and bequeath to my daughter LUCRETIA DUNN one shilling sterling.
Item I leave and bequeath to my daughter REBEKAH AWTERY one shilling sterling.
Item I leave and bequeath to my daughter ELIZABETH AWTERY one shilling sterling and my two youngest daughters LYDDAand MILLY SHEFFIELDI leave and bequeath one shilling sterling to each and as to my goods
and chattels stock etc. I leave for support of my beloved wife HANNAH SHEFFIELD during her life then to dispose of the same acknowledging tis and no other to be my last will and testament.
