Death

Mr. George Robert Herring, age 78, passed away December 13, 2025, at UNC Lenoir Hospital with his beloved wife and sons at this side. Born in Wayne County in 1947, he was a longtime resident of the Saulston and Snow Hill communities. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Harmon Herring and Frances Jones Herring. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in Agronomy. As a progressive farmer in the Saulston community of Wayne County, he was deeply committed to agriculture and education. He shared his passion and knowledge by teaching Agriculture and Horticulture at Greene Central High School and Lenoir Community College, leaving a lasting impact on countless students. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patty Furr Herring; his sons, Byron Herring and his wife, Kristin, of Newport News, Virginia, and Craig Herring and his wife, Jessica; his grandchildren, Caleb and Noah; his sister, Nancy H. Stallings (Bob) of Cary; his nephews, Robert Stallings of Charlotte and Seth Stallings of Cary; and his beloved granddog, Luna. Funeral Services will be held 3 PM Thursday, December 18th, at Calvary Memorial United Methodist Church with Reverend Gina Barrow officiating. Committal Services will immediately follow at the Snow Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the hour prior to the service at the Calvary Memorial UMC Fellowship Hall and other times at the Herring residence in Snow Hill.
