Walter Columbus Almond, 81, of 16585 Hwy 73 W., Albemarle, died at 3:43 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009 at his home.His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, with a 30-minute state at Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Albemarle, where he was a member. Elder Rommie Williams and Elder David Anderson will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 13, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. At other times the family will meet at his home.Born Dec. 12, 1927, in Stanly County, he was the son of the late Harvey Lee and Lotha Ellen Eudy Almond and was a retired heavy equipment operator for the City of Albemarle. Mr. Almond was a veteran of the Navy.He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Bell Furr Almond; two sisters, Jennie Helms and Mary Sloop; and five brothers, Coy Almond, Henry Almond, Lloyd Almond, Clarence Almond and Floyd Almond.Surviving are two sons, Steve Almond and wife, Irma, and Dwight Almond and wife, Kelly, all of Albemarle; a daughter, Karen (Almond) McLendon and husband, Sid, of Albemarle; two sisters, Minnie Lowder and Esther Talbert, both of Albemarle; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.Memorials may be made to: Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Church, 200 Holt Road, Albemarle, NC 28001 or Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N.
