Marriage

Miss Helen Dixon Marrow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Carney Marrow, of Chapel Hill, was married to James Franklin Furr, of Brevard, son of Dr. and Mrs. W. E. Furr, of Franklin, Saturday evening at 7 o'clock at the Baptist church of Chapel Hill. The Rev. S. T. Habel officiated, using the double ring ceremony. A program of wedding music was presented by Mrs. A. S. Winsor, organist, and Jack Averitt, vocalist. Magnolia leaves, Oregon fern, and baskets of white gladiolus, snap dragon, and carnations were used in decorating the church. The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, was at tired in a dress of white satin fashioned with a fitted bodice, scrolled bertha collar, and long sleeves ending in calla points. The bouffant skirt extended in a wide train. She wore a finger tip veil of illusion which fell from a halo of orange blossoms and carried a cascade bouquet of white roses centered with a white orchid. Miss Frances Marrow, of Chapel Hill, sister of the bride, was maid of honor and Mrs. Robert H. Watson, of Carrboro, was matron of honor. They wore gowns of pink satin and nylon tulle styled with strapless bodices and full skirts and matching stoles. They carried bouquets of spring flowers. Bridesmaids were Miss Nola Jane Powers, of Bennettsville, S. C., Mrs. Paul L. Doster, of Chapel Hill, and Miss Katherine Furr and Miss Frances Furr, sisters of the bridegroom. Their bouquets and dresses were identical to those of the honor attendants with Miss Powers and Miss Furr in yellow and Miss Katherine Furr and Mrs. Doster in aqua. Cezette Langford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Langford, of Roanoke Rapids, was flower girl and wore a dress of blue net and taffeta. Dr. W. E. Furr served as best man and William Basnight, of Chapel Hill, Robert York, of Waynesvllle, Dean Henson, of Otto, David Collins, of Wilson, and Hall Callahan, of Franklin, were ushers. The bride's mother wore a formal dress of Confederate blue crepe and a corsage of pink roses. The bridegroom's mother wore a coral crepe formal dress with a corsage of white roses. After the wedding, the bride's parents entertained with a reception at their home. Following a wedding trip in the South, Mr. and Mrs. Furr will reside in Brevard where he holds a position with the Ecusta Paper Corporation. Mrs. Furr was graduated from Chapel Hill High school and the University of North Carolina. Mr. Furr graduated from Franklin High school and the University of North Carolina with a degree in chemistry.

Death

Last rites for Mrs. Helen Morrow Furr, age 38, were held at 11:00 o’clock Monday morning at the Brevard Methodist church of which she was an active member. The pastor, Rev. Brunson Wallace, officiated, and burial was in Pisgali Gardens. Mrs. Furr died in the local hospital Saturday morning after a brief illness. A native of Bennetsvllle, S.C., she had lived in Chapel Hill and graduated from UNC before coming to Brevard 16 years ago with her husband, James F. Furr. Mrs. Furr was a secretary in the fine arts department at Brevard College. Surviving in addition to the husband are a son, James Jr. and a daughter Rosaliand Furr of the home; the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank C. Morrow of Chapel Hill and a sister, Mrs. Allan S. Meade of Warrington, Pa. The family received friends at the home. Moore Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
