Death

James "Jim" Furr, 88 years of age, of Concord, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2015 at his home. Jim was born July 7, 1926 in Concord, NC to the late Martin Frank Furr and the late Dessie May Burris Furr. He was also preceded in death by his brother Charles Furr. Mr. Furr proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII in the Pacific on LST 591 and 700. He graduated from Catawba College with a BA, and taught at Jackson Training School as a printing instructor for seven years. He then served as Vice President at Arts Engraving Company in Charlotte for 28 years. A graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 11:00am at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis with military honors. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Audrey "Jackie" Furr; daughter Karen Furr Murgas and husband Jeff; daughter Brenda Furr Mooney and husband Dwayne; his brother Ray Furr and wife Alta; grandsons Cody Murgas, Kevin Murgas, Tyler Mooney and wife Julie, Grant Mooney, Adam Mooney, and granddaugter Lydia Mooney. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Cancer Society. Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord is serving the Furr family.
