Death
William "Bill" W. Sams, Sr., 72, of Memphis, formerly of Atlanta, died at Memphis Veteran's Hospital on June 28, 2011. He was a retired chief of 21 years of the U.S. Navy, having served in the Vietnam War after two tours. He was an avid disc-golfer. He loved his dogs and fast cars, but most of all he loved his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Betty Ann; his son, William W. Sams, II, of Memphis; daughters, Bambi Sams, Beverly Sams, and Bonni Sams, all of Memphis; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean Duffy and Ruth Cranford, both of Georgia; and a host of extended family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm at High Point Funeral Home & Crematorium, 3788 Summer Avenue, Memphis on Tuesday, July 5, 2011. A service with full military honors will be held at West Tennessee Veteran's Cemetery on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 11 am.
