Death

MENARD — A 3l-year-old Silver man was killed shortly before midnight Friday in a headon collision 4.9 miles north of here on U. S. Highway 83. Dead is: James Carlton Furr, Sun Oil Co. employee and resident of Silver eight years. Furr was alone traveling north at the time of the crash with Rudolfo Vela, 22, of 806 Murphy St., San Angelo, who was alone and driving south. Vela's injuries are not serious, and his release from Menard Hospital is expected today. Shad Bryson of Eden, state highway patrolman who investigated the accident, said both vehicles were demolished. Furr, born Feb. 23, 1930, in Junction, was a Korean War veteran. He married Billie Jean Autry of Eden March 8, 1952, in Brady. He attended Sul Ross State College. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Junction Methodist Church, with burial in Junction Cemetery directed by Mission Funeral Home of Menard. Survivors include his wife; a son, David Carlton Furr; a daughter, Carla Jean Furr, all of Silver; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Furr of Junction; and two sisters, Mrs. Wilda Meixner of Slaton and Miss Andra Sue Furr of Junction.
