Death
CONCORD - Dan Cochran, 77 of 4800 Roberta Road, Concord, died Saturday, August 11, 2007 at his home. He was born Feb. 2, 1930, in Cabarrus Co., a son of the late John W. Cochran and the late Rebecca Furr Cochran. Dan was educated in Cabarrus County schools. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from September 1947 to September 1951 aboard the U.S.S. John A. Bole. He was a member of the Tin Can Sailors' Association. He worked as a machinist at Hugh Grey and Kayser Roth Hosiery for 30 years and retired from Dennis Carpenter Ford Reproductions in 1998. A former member of the Harrisburg Lions Club, he also served as Constable of Township 2 from 1964 to 1966. Dan was a member of the Disabled American Veterans' and the American Legion. A lifelong member of Roberta United Methodist Church, he served on numerous committees and received the church's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005. Survivors are his wife of 55 years, Lula "Lukie" Dorton Cochran of the home; sons: Colby Cochran of Salisbury, Danny Cochran of the home, brother J.W. "Dub" Cochran of Concord, sisters: Norma Humberger of Concord and Eunice Mattera of La Jolla, Cal., and grandchild Kevin Cochran. Funeral Service: Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at 4 pm at Roberta United Methodist Church in Concord where he was a member, with Rev. Debra Short and Rev. Randy Wall officiating. Burial will be at Roberta United Methodist Church Cemetery, Concord. Military Honors will be conducted by DAV Veterans' Honor Guard. The family will meet at the residence. Visitation: 6-8 tonight at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. Memorials: Roberta UMC Building Fund, 3925 Cochran Rd., Concord NC 28027, or Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Boy Scout Camp Rd., Kannapolis, NC 28081.
