ALBEMARLE — Clifton James Herrin, 84, 711 Aquadale Road, died Thursday (March 30, 2000) at his residence.

Born Jan. 10, 1916, in Stanly County, Mr. Herrin was a son of the late Luther and Jane Furr Herrin. A retired heavy equipment owner and operator, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Herrin was a member of Canton Baptist Church.

Mr. Herrin was preceded in death by his first wife, Edith Virginia Austin Herrin, and a son, Donnie Herrin.

Survivors include his wife Maynolia Smith Herrin; son Conrad Youvon Herrin, Holly Hill, S.C.; daughter Jahaliah Cook, Albemarle; stepdaughter Jenelle S. Faulkner, Albemarle; sisters Delsie Lambert, Albemarle, and Rose Poplin, Lake Norman; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

Services: 4 p.m. Sunday, Stanly Memorial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Gary Hunsucker.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Stanly Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Jahaliah Cook, 1196 Carolyn Drive, Albemarle.
