Death
LANCASTER - Mr. Melvin Garren "Red" Furr, 75, of 906 Forest Drive died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1997, at his home. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Dr. Ernest T. Thompson III and Samuel N. Thomas officiating. Entombment will be at the Lancaster Memorial Park Mausoleum. A native of Stanley County, N.C., Mr. Furr attended North Carolina State University and Phiffer College. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a 50-year member of the American Legion Post 31 and was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church. He was a Realtor and developer, was the owner of Arrowood Estates and Realty, a member of the South Carolina Association of Realtors, served as past president and past State Realtor of the Year, was a member of the Lancaster County Realtors Association and had been Lancaster County Realtor of the Year. Surviving are his wife, Peggy McInvaille Furr; his son, D. Bruce Furr of Columbia; four daughters, Suzanne Harper and Holly Adamson, both of Lancaster; Amelia Ruple of Lexington and Lisa Garren Furr of Richmond, Va.; his brother, Clegg Furr of Monroe, N.C.; and eight grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, P.O.
