Services for Gerry George Royce, 77 of Houston who passed away of heart failure Sunday, October 25, 2020 will be held December 8th @ 11am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 10555 Mills Rd, Houston, Tx. 77070. Committal Services at 2:30pm @ Houston National Cemetery 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, Tx. 77038. He was born July 12, 1943 @ Mare Island Naval Air Station in Vallejo, California. He grew up and went to school in the Los Angeles School District. Gerry was a US Navy veteran, having served for three years during the 1960s. He worked for Hewlett Packard in California and Washington state for 38 years. While at H/P he traveled abroad on various assignments; working in such cities as Guadalajara, Mexico, Sao Paulo, Brazil, as well as cities of Europe in Austria & Germany. All the while serving in the California Army National Guard. He also went to Seoul, Korea & the DMZ prior to the 1988 Olympics. Many of you know he had a fond liking of antique & relic guns; becoming a sharpshooter and gunsmith in his own right. His collection at one time totaled over 50 handguns and 50 rifles all dating before 1946. He also loved to read. Over the next 3 decades he acquired more than 1,000 books Also among his hobbies...was fishing. And fishing in Kline Line Lake in Vancouver with his grandchildren was one of the simple highlights of his days. He joined the LDS Church in 1981. He served as scout master, elders quorum and high priest secretary and was a family history consultant. He and Leslie served a Stake Service Mission 1998-2000; working to support the Vancouver Stake Missionaries. Gerry leaves behind his wife of 37 years, Leslie, whom he married in the Los Angeles Temple; sisters, Sally Lawton of Burbank, CA., Wendy Grode, Albuquerque. NMex.; four children; Mike Royce of Newburg, Indiana, daughter Shelby Sommers of Cookeville, Tennessee; son Ian Royce and a daughter Ashley Royce both of Vancouver. WA. Five stepchildren, Bryan Wolf & James Kelly of Allen, TX. Leslie Marshall of Oceanside, California, Richard Kelly of Orem, Utah and Lisa Kelly of Ramona, California. Ten grandchildren, 19 step-grandchildren; & 8 g-grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Gerry Royce & Lillianmae Chalfant Royce; a sister Pat LaCross, brother Richard Royce, granddaughter Mary Frances Royce, step-son, Clifon Kelly and grandson Jacob Marshall. Gerry was a humble servant of the Lord and we will all miss him.Endnotes
