Death
Harold Cline McGee Mr. McGee, 82, of Charlotte, died Thursday, October 21, 2004 from a heart attack. He was born in Newton, Catawba County on January 21, 1922, the second son of Joseph and Mary Mauney McGee. He attended Newton schools, Davidson College and graduated from NC State University in Chemical Engineering. He served in the Navy during World War II as an officer on the submarine USS Plaice, taking his training in New London, Ct. The Pacific area was his duty call. Upon his return from the Navy, he married Gilbretta Furr of Newton. He was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church, served on the church council and as Sunday School superintendent for 30 years. He worked for Reichold Chemicals for 35 years. He was a member of West Rotary, awarded as a Paul Harris Fellow, original Press Club of NC State, Forest Products Research Society, the Charlotte Arts, Tower Club and many charities. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Gilbretta McGee, children H. Cline McGee Jr. (wife Ann), Debra DeLong (husband Randy), Robert P. McGee (wife Joyce), 4 grandchildren Brian and John DeLong, Brittany and Heather McGee, and brother William Edward McGee of Hendersonville. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, October 24, 2004 at Christ Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Private internment with family members will follow.
